
A single word ‘truck’ may refer both to Daihatsu Hijet (weight: 1010 kg) and to really heavy trucks (up to 50 000 kg). General division of trucks:
- VERY LIGHT TRUCKS (mini trucks) are very good solution in old town sections of many European countries where normal trucks can’t drive on very narrow streets. The engine in very light trucks is limited to 660 cc. In the mini trucks are not allowed on public roads.
- LIGHT TRUCKS (pickup trucks, pickups) are car-sized vehicles used by individuals. They are extremely popular in and also in Asia (especially in and ) and Africa. In the they may not weigh more than 6 300 kg, in Europe – no more than 3 500 kg. The characteristic feature of a pickup truck is an open-top rear cargo area. They are known as utes in , as bakkies in , as half trucks in and as tenders in .
- MEDIUM TRUCKS are trucks weighing between 6 300 – 15 000 kg (in the ) or 3,5 – 7,5 tonnes (Europe). They are used as delivery trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks, etc.
- HEAVY TRUCKS may weigh over 50 000 kg. they are used for long-haul transportation.
